Position Overview

CR's Electronics team is seeking a Program Manager to lead the product testing efforts of consumer based digital cameras and digital video.  Across products such as smartphone photo and video, Drone photo and video, and major manufactured brands of digital cameras.

 

To a Consumer Reports product tester, cameras are much more than just point and click. The Program Manager will, based on their years of testing experience and industry knowledge, manage the testing and research programs that helps CR maintain its’ reputation for integrity and testing excellence. This includes the planning, development, deployment, supervision, support and successful delivery of all phases of assigned photographic product and service testing and research work. Utilize expertise and knowledge of competitive landscape to determine business needs and budget recommendations to ensure that CR keeps pace in a constantly changing marketplace.

Qualifications Include

  • Bachelor degree, or equivalent, with a minimum of 5-7years’ experience in photography and international product testing. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Prior working experience including test protocol development and leading test programs. 
  • Exceptional project management and data analysis skills required. 
  • Ability to negotiate and manage vendors.
  • Written and verbal skills to clearly and accurately report test methods and results as well as explain them in a way that is understandable by content creators who are not technically knowledgeable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Within Electronics, manages complex photography & international consumer product programs, ensuring appropriate planning, coordination and oversight of test and research projects related to photography and international consumer research & testing projects while monitoring timelines and costs.
  • Oversees, and approves elements of assigned programs from inception to completion. Responsible for program tactics, proposal development, product testing design, assessment of product and service evaluation methodologies, evaluation of outcomes and ratings as well as documenting reports of results.
  • Serves as liaison with the International Consumer Research & Testing (ICRT) organizations. Attends ICRT meetings, reviews labs and explores options to collaborate around testing needs.
  • Ensures integration of projects and adjusts project scope, timing, and budgets as needed, based on the needs of the business.
  • Ensures that data meet established standards for accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility, and dependability.
  • Keeps abreast of industry testing standards and market trends, evaluating and providing recommendations to improve existing testing procedures.
  • Develops and maintains photography, ratings and model descriptions based on product evaluations.
  • Reviews content to ensure the information is technically accurate, defensible, and current.
  • Ensures a holistic view of consumer needs is developed, understood and central to the product and services evaluation programs.
  • Develops, maintains relationships and coordinates activities with internal and external experts in related fields. Determines how best to utilize relevant internal and external resources and manage to budget.
  • Identifies and contracts with appropriate external resources to complete projects as necessary. Responsible for the Request for Proposal (RFP) process to engage resources and negotiates details of various vendor contracts and deliverables. Provides oversight of work of external vendors to ensure strict adherence to negotiated contracts and protocols.
  • May supervise product testing staff.
  • Partners with Content Development staff to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Drafts test protocols including identifying, updating and iterating methodologies as necessary.
  • Oversees the work of assigned project staff; scheduling and monitoring work. Trains and coaches project staff, provides feedback on performance.
  • Coordinates with functional manager to enable appropriate availability of resources.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.
