Position Overview

The Director, Strategic Intelligence is responsible for facilitating well informed strategic decisions across CR’s businesses on the basis of systematic market, company and competitive intelligence.  The Director will manage a research and strategic analytics team to gather relevant research and data from internal and external sources and synthesize it into strategic insights and recommendations.  This role will also work with organizational leadership to facilitate decisions and actions on the basis of these strategic insights.

Qualifications Include

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 8-10 years of experience developing corporate or business unit strategies in a management consultant or operational strategy role.  The Director must possess the following experience and/or skills:

  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, problem solving, synthesis of information into compelling stories, and project management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively present ideas and build consensus with stakeholders
  • Ability to set priorities and organize teams to achieve goals
  • Experience gathering, organizing, analyzing and interpreting complex data from multiple data sources
  • Knowledge of the media and publishing industry preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with secondary research services and vendors preferred but not required

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating and managing a systematic approach to tracking market trends, competitive developments, and shifts in consumer behavior with relevance to CR’s business portfolio. Includes establishment of standardized templates and processes for the team; management of research services vendors; and development of a network of external advisors and experts to anticipate future movements in pertinent industries.
  • Identifying and addressing gaps in our current analytics on the performance of CR’s product portfolio to gain greater insight into opportunities to enhance business results
  • Developing a comprehensive approach to integrate these internal and external insights into actionable recommendations for the businesses
  • Partnering with divisional leaders to integrate these recommendations into decisions and actions across their organizations
  • Supporting cross-divisional Innovation efforts by helping to spot and vet new businesses, product concepts, and partnerships to drive revenue and social impact
  • Managing the individuals on the research and strategic analytics team; developing skills, creating development opportunities, addressing weaknesses where relevant, supervising overall output, and building a cohesive unit
  • Developing deep understanding of CR business model and culture to inform strategic recommendations
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on external market landscape
