  • Position Overview

    Working with peers and leaders across the organization, this key role develops and executes a thought leadership and influencer strategy that taps into CR’s deep expertise and builds affinity for CR’s mission and brand. Serving as a core member of the Communications management team, this individual plays a leadership role in identifying and securing engagement opportunities--speaking events, op-eds, bylines and other communications vehicles beyond media relations--where CR can shape the public dialog around critical consumer issues. The Manager of Thought Leadership Programs is also responsible for building and maintaining connections with business and trade organizations in support of increasing CR’s profile and visibility.  

     

    This manager works in close collaboration with other key leaders across the organization to ensure alignment across thought leadership outreach that supports CR’s strategies to advance marketplace change. H/she must be adept at working with peers in this highly matrixed organization as well as coordinate within the Communications department to produce communications deliverables aligned with immediate-term marketplace activity and long-term strategic campaigns.

    Qualifications Include

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field is required.
    • A minimum of seven to ten years of hands-on communications experience with background in public relations and strong project management skills.
    • Established relationships with event organizers, editorial boards, and influencers.
    • Comfortable providing strategic communications counsel to cross functional partners and engaging with senior management.
    • Team player who collaborates well with others across highly matrixed organization.
    • Exceptionally strong interpersonal, social media, verbal communication, and writing skills.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develops, advances and tracks CR’s thought leadership initiatives program.
    • Identifies and secures thought leadership opportunities, including white papers, speaker placement at conferences, and with business and industry organizations interested in consumer issues, working with stakeholders across CR.
    • Identifies next generation of thought leaders.
    • Supports executive communications by informing bylines and op-eds, and developing presentations in coordination with colleagues on the Communications team.
    • Cultivates and maintains influencer, business and trade relationships across strategic priorities through constant contact and engagement.
    • Helps CR experts and thought leaders build social presence.
    • Manages and tracks short- and long-term thought leadership program and reporting.
    • Maintains contacts with business organizations and select industry groups that help advance CR’s mission in partnership with emerging CR business units.
    • May provide support for CR representatives who speak on behalf of the organization at events or other industry venues.
    • Stays abreast of consumer and marketplace trends to identify opportunities to demonstrate CR’s commitment to creating a fairer, safer and healthier marketplace for consumers.
    • Trains, recruits and manages staff with a focus on creating an innovative, collaborative, and performance-driven culture.
    • Collaborates with outside public relations firm(s).
