  • Position Overview

    The Data Scientist will be responsible for supporting data and analytics-driven decision making at Consumer Reports. Will provide new insights and recommendations through the use of advanced statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualization techniques. He/she will leverage and synthesize data from internal and external sources in  order to enhance the organization’s understanding of its subscriber and non-subscriber segment’s propensities, outcomes, and decision points.

    The role sits within the Business Strategy & Planning department which is responsible for leading strategic planning, innovation and market intelligence at Consumer Reports. The candidate will support the department’s data analysis needs as well as the organization’s content classification needs.  This role will require cross-divisional collaboration with various stakeholders to acquire and organize data and content assets and assist with expansion of Consumer Report’s enterprise-wide Taxonomy.   

    Qualifications Include

    • Bachelor’s degree or work equivalent in computer science, information science, math or related field; advanced degree preferred
    • A minimum of three years of experience in data science with a focus on building machine learning models for text mining
    • Experience in developing, managing, and applying content tags in a controlled vocabularies and metadata to support content-driven organization
    • Experience with using SQL to build custom datasets
    • Experience with python packages and R for natural language processing, machine learning and graphics card processing
    • Strong data wrangling skills and experience cleaning and optimizing text data for analysis
    • Experience in governance and system management; experience with a taxonomy management system preferred but not required.
    • Excellent decision making, project management, communication, and presentation skills


    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with answering questions/hypotheses to inform key business priorities based on analysis of internal and external data sources.
    • Prepare performance analytics and metrics used by stakeholders to identify and support growth opportunity
    • Represent enterprise view on projects related to new data opportunities, search capabilities, content development, new products, and other strategic initiatives.
    • Partner with cross-divisional team to collect, aggregate, and analyze data from multiple internal and external sources, make recommendations on ways to improve business performance
    • Create and support data science models through programming in Python and R with emphasis on natural language processing and machine learning algorithms
    • Work across all divisions and products to help manage and maintain controlled vocabularies and metadata.
    • Participate in developing and aligning taxonomies for classifying assets across product, service, testing and content areas.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the taxonomy evolves with the business and new initiatives apply a data-centric methodology from concept through implementation.
    • Performs other duties as assigned but not those of a higher level.
