  • Position Overview

    Consumer Reports is seeking to hire a Lead Software Engineer, eCommerce Engineering.  This individual will be responsible for providing technical leadership, inspiration, and guidance to the eCommerce team by supporting the development of the eCommerce system and on-going maintenance of our production environment. This role is responsible for the implementation of operational best practices, standards, efficiencies, processes, and tools, focusing on continuous integration, automating manual processes, and streamlining software development.

    Qualifications Include

    • Proven track record in developing high-quality applications on schedule in an agile, iterative, fast-paced development environment.
    • Ability to solve complex technical problems and effectively communicate solutions to system architects, peers, and management. 
    • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal and able to lead, partner and work efficiently in a collaborative setting.
    • Strong experience in architecting, developing and maintaining large-scale, high visibility applications and systems
    • Strong experience in developing and delivering secure solutions which meet PCI/DSS guidelines.
    • 7+ years of experience working with Java/J2EE web application platforms, knowledge of Spring Framework preferred.
    • 7+ years of experience with web development in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, knowledge of JS frameworks such as ReactJS, AngularJS a plus
    • 5+ years developing and/or designing RESTful API services. Knowledge of OSGi a plus.
    • Strong experience of Oracle, SQL, or object-relational database design concepts  and practices using Open JPA or equivalent solution such as Hibernate 
    • Experience of configuration management for web servers such as Apache, Nginx
    • Experience w/ messaging software components such as RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ a plus
    • Experience w/ MuleSoft and/or ElasticPath e-commerce platform a plus.
    • Experience with SOLR search a plus
    • Experience in integrating payment processing solutions such as Paymentech, Stripe, PayPal or Amazon a plus
    • Experience w/ deployments and management of cloud-based architectures, Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment a plus
    • Experience in containerization or VM technologies (e.g. Docker, Vagrant) a plus
    • Knowledge of DevOps monitoring tools such as Kibana, Elasticsearch, New Relic a plus
    • Experience in Agile tools and DevOps methodologies, including continuous deployment, rapid integration, and automation (Jenkins, Bamboo, Nexus, Ansible) a plus.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Partners with the Sr. Manager, eCommerce Engineering to define software architectures and design patterns for software projects and solutions
    • Leads the team’s design, implementation, and testing of modules and components of CU’s eCommerce system platform 
    • Conduct code reviews on pull requests issued by other Engineers on the team
    • Maintain development branches and handle application build and deployments to DEV, QA, Staging, and Production environments.
    • Oversees the team’s work in eCommerce development including advanced prototype and concept implementations.
    • Collaborates with Product Managers, Project Managers, Software Engineers, QA, Data Engineering, DevOps, network and other functional teams to design and implement quality software solutions, utilizing Agile and/or waterfall SDLC methodologies. 
    • Analyze project business requirements to write technical requirements, provide development estimates and feedback, and determines implementation/execution approaches
    • Assigns implementation and testing tasks to other team members and assists in overseeing the quality of their work.
    • Provides technical advice, guidance and informal training to team members. May mentor more junior technical staff. 
    • Develops and implements payment and billing, and customer service and marketing management applications and components. 
    • Supports, troubleshoots, monitors and optimizes existing and developed system software in a production environment
    • Write unit tests to support platform testability 
    • Helps streamline software development by contributing to the implementation of a continuous-integration process, automating manual processes, and eliminating defects. 
    • Collaborates on departmental audits and analyzes technical findings to develop appropriate corrective action recommendations. 
    • Performs other duties as assigned but not at a higher level.
