Security Officer


Position Overview

Responsible for safety and security of all staff and visitors. Oversees contract security staff and evening maintenance operations. Monitors the ongoing effectiveness of all facility security and related operations.

Work hours for this position are 2PM-10PM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees evening contract security and cleaning staff, directly supervising the maintenance being performed in security sensitive areas of the building.
  • Provides daily, weekly and monthly reports to the Security Manager on the state of the evening contract security staff.
  • Inspects loading dock and surrounding area daily to ensure delivered goods are received by close of day, cleanliness is maintained and that no access impediments exist, using warning signage & physical traffic control as necessary.
  • Supervises the closing of the building ensuring that all areas of risk are secured.
  • Issues keys and photo I.D. cards to new employees, replaces lost or defective cards and assists in the collection of terminated employees ID cards.  Conducts security orientation overview relative to access control system and property pass procedure.
  • Issues long & short term parking permits as well as permanent parking passes for employees.
  • Reviews, monitors and maintains visitors pass records, ensuring access areas are supplied with sufficient amount of passes.
  • Performs research and recovery of incidents housed on the digital video recording system. Monitors operability of CCTV system and check status alarm.  Ensure system is functioning properly.
  • Provides assistance to internal parties and/or law enforcement as investigations require.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of all checkpoints and produces reports on any defective patrol checkpoints.
  • Participates in the training of new guards and their orientation of the patrol route for both interior and exterior tours.
  • Schedules and carries out simulated drills, emergency response system testing, and new staff orientations, providing monthly reports on results.
  • May participate in special event planning, along with providing executive protection where warranted.
  • Assists facilities team with ensuring appropriate signage is correctly installed.
  • Performs other security functions as needed.

Qualifications Include

Associates degree or equivalent required plus 5 years law enforcement, military and/or corporate security experience required.  NYS licensed Security Officer with EMT certification.  Proficiency in First Aid, CPR, and AED required.  Must be able to handle emergency high-pressure situations.  Needs to be detail oriented and demonstrate the ability to interact well with all organizational levels.  Technical and computer skills are required.


Physical Demands:

May include, frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50-80 pounds.
