The Opportunity

In this role, you will provide statistical support for research and product development at Consumer Reports. You will leverage and synthesize data from product testing, survey, and external data sources to enhance our development of product ratings and consumer insights.


The role sits within the Statistics & Data Science Department, which is responsible for leading data analysis for internal projects at Consumer Reports. Statisticians work in partnership with CR’s Survey, Content, Data Intelligence, Advocacy, and Digital teams to ensure that information presented in Consumer Reports is based on sound scientific methods.

What you will do

  • Analyze and interpret data from product tests, surveys, and other sources.
  • Develop experimental designs for consumer product testing, and other applications.
  • Analyze external databases to identify emerging trends and potential problems.
  • Under the guidance of senior staff, serve as a consultant to internal stakeholders on statistical issues and provide strategic support for business and product development teams.
  • Under the guidance and at the request of senior staff, you will research and propose new methods or improvements to existing methods for data analysis.
  • Develop and use a variety of computer programs, e.g., R, SAS, and SAS Jmp, for collecting and analyzing data and reporting results.
  • Checks others’ statistical project work to ensure accuracy and consistent application of methods.

About You

  • You have an advanced degree in Statistics, Data Science, or related field. Big bonus points if you have a background in applied sciences or engineering.
  • You have completed significant course work or experience with linear mixed models and other advanced statistical techniques. 
  • You have worked with large datasets using state-of-the-art statistical software such as R, SAS, and SAS Jmp.
  • Practical experience with text mining, data visualization, SQL and Python is a plus. 
  • Ability to present complex quantitative information to diverse audiences using different formats, experience with Tableau is a plus.
