The Opportunity

Our interns work with our amazing staff to fight for a fairer, safer, more just marketplace for consumers nationwide.  You’ll dive into some of the most crucial  policy questions of the day, from sustainability, self-driving cars, and student debt to credit scoring, data privacy, and broadband access. Spend your summer developing skills that will serve your career goals while engaging in work that promotes evidence-based public policy.

 

As a Consumer Reports intern, you’ll stand with us as we stand alongside consumers. You’ll work with us as we empower consumers with the knowledge they need to make free, informed, confident choices in the face of a complex marketplace. It’s important work and it’s been our thing for more than 80 years.

Internships are available to current full-time law and master degree students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

 

    • The program runs for 12 weeks between June and August of 2021, with some flexibility to accommodate school schedules
    • This is a paid internship, based on an hourly rate

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, positions will be remote until further notice

  • Please specify in your application if you are seeking, and your school offers, academic credit for internships. Include the contact information for your academic Institution representative
  • Also specify if you have particular interest or expertise in one of the issue areas (financial services, telecommunications, etc.) listed below, as you may be assigned to a particular policy expert
  • Internships are filled on a rolling basis. It is suggested that you apply as soon as possible

 

What you will do

 

 

  • Support campaigns and policy efforts to improve consumer rights in a variety of fields, including financial services, telecommunications, health care, energy, technology, and auto and product safety.
  • Hone communications and analytic skills through drafting fact sheets, infographics, data analysis, research papers, blogs, and social media communications.
  • Attend (virtually) hearings, meetings and other events to track the latest legislative and policy developments on Capitol Hill and other government and policy circles.

  • Law students and public policy majors preferred
  • Self-starter interested in a variety of policy topics 
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong writer able to turn around projects quickly
  • Data presentation skills
  • Commitment to serving the public interest
  • Social media experience a plus
