THE OPPORTUNITY

Consumer Reports is seeking an accounting professional to manage the accounting department’s compliance related to required filings, including sales tax, payroll, Federal and State required informational filings.  This accounting professional will accurately record transactions and analyze account balances for Consumer Reports. This role reports directly to the Director of Accounting.

 

What You'll Do

 

  • Lead the capital determination process of fixed assets, including working with key stakeholders to ensure proper adherence to policy, reporting on fixed assets, researching guidance for non-routine purchases.
  • Lead the physical inventory process to help ensure proper tracking and safeguarding of CR’s assets.
  • Periodically process payroll and lead reporting for the payroll function, including research and review of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and various state regulations as it applies to employee compensation and the taxation of benefits. Propose modifications to payroll policies as needed to comply with the applicable regulations
  • Manage the monitoring and reconciliation of CR’s multi-state sales tax returns (filings performed by a 3rd Party)
  • Analyze and report on: employee-related expenses including fringe benefit costs; salary allocations; other confidential areas
  • Support the annual audit process; collaborates with auditors and internal staff to provide timely, accurate responses to auditor inquiries.

ABOUT YOU

What We Need To See

 

  • Must have a BA/BS in Accounting 
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, particularly with nonprofits and a focus on accounts payable management.
  • Must have strong knowledge of US GAAP, and non-profit financial accounting principles.
  • Evidence of payroll experience.
  • Proven experience that includes accounting and tax research skills (referencing authoritative literature), journal entry processing, project management, and cross-functional work
  • Proven proficiency in Google G Suite Tools (Forms, Sheet, Doc)
  •  

What We Would Love To See

  • Previous experience with Oracle Financials is preferred and IBM Cognos (TM1) 
  • Public auditing firm experience
  • CPA license holder
