This is a key design role in the print department of Consumer Reports. You will be directly involved with shaping the new brand vision of the organization through the magazine pages. You will be working on feature stories as well as front of book pages for special interest publications sold exclusively on newsstands across the country.

What You'll Do

  • Design layouts for Consumer Reports special interest publications.

  • Conduct stock imagery searches.

  • Commission illustrations as needed (this includes: setting prices, executing contracts, and all necessary paperwork associated with these transactions).

  • May design infographics and data visualization stories.

  • Prepare pages and images for color separation; approve proofs.

  • Prepare layouts for pre-press and check proofs for final appearance.


What We Need To See

  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design or comparable major.

  • At least 5 years experience working as a print magazine designer.

  • Must be proficient working with complicated typographic hierarchies. 

  • Strong type skills and a deep knowledge of grid based design work is essential to your success.

  • Must be proficient in Adobe CS software. 

  • Should have a working knowledge of production tasks. 

  • Understanding of color and retouching.

  • Experience doing photo stock research.

  • Ability to leverage knowledge of the competitive landscape, marketplace trends, best practices and technology to improve CR’s ability to compete.

  • Awareness of current and external trends.  

  • Data Visualization and infographics skills.

  • Experience working  cross functionally and collaboratively 

  • Proficiency in After Effects.

  • Experience creating assets for social media.
