THE OPPORTUNITY

CR uses rigorous research, consumer insights, journalism, and policy expertise to inform purchase decisions, improve the products and services that businesses deliver, and drive regulatory and fair competitive practices.

 

The Policy Analyst will play a critical role in our advocacy work by making sure that companies prioritize safety, fairness, and honesty; by working to establish strong pro-consumer policies and protections; and by listening to people and empowering them to raise their voices to create change.

 

This position is grant-contingent until June 17, 2023 with opportunity for extension as we secure additional philanthropic support, which is an organizational priority.

 

What You'll Do

  • Identify, research, recommend and help take action on relevant policy issues, including but not limited to transportation, climate and energy.
  • Recommend strategy to advance Consumer Reports’ policy objectives.
  • Implement legislative, regulatory, and corporate influence strategies on relevant policy issues.
  • Advocate to state or federal legislative bodies and agencies and corporations on behalf of consumers.
  • Testify on behalf of Consumer Reports or draft testimony for others to deliver before Congress, agencies, or other legislative bodies.
  • Stay abreast of legislative, regulatory, corporate and other marketplace developments in transportation, energy, and other sustainability areas. Anticipates impact of these events on organization strategy and impact.
  • Craft letters, fact sheets, and other materials for the media, decision-makers, and activists.
  • Coordinate with external partners and coalitions, as well as interdisciplinary internal teams across all CR functions.

 

ABOUT YOU

What We Need To See

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years experience working with a legislative or executive body, or as a public interest, grassroots, or social justice advocate, or policy analyst.
  • Proven experience building relationships with individuals, groups, and organizations with varied interests.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated legislative/lobbying skills and experience.

What We'd Love To See

  • Advanced degree in policy, government, law or sustainability-related field preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in transportation and energy issues. 
  • Experience determining policy stances on relevant issues.
