OVERVIEW

CR is currently seeking Senior Technician to join our team!  This position will be support the automation of the labs and calibration program in Lab Operations.  The process includes installing, supporting and troubleshooting data acquisition systems and designing test equipment in the labs.  In addition to the above, this  position will support consumer product testing and the implementation of a new data platform as needed.

 

This position requires you to work onsite in our Yonkers facility.

THE OPPORTUNITY

How You’ll Make an Impact:

 

Your engineering experience plus your critical thinking, problem-solving and technical knowledge will support our product testing labs. You will work with National Instruments hardware and software to automate product testing processes and data collection, and additionally maintain current systems through calibration and troubleshooting failures. This will include specifying the appropriate sensors needed, development of custom software, identifying root causes of failures, and the ability to design custom test fixtures. 

  • You will plan, coordinate and install data acquisition systems.
  • You will support maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • You will design and help to build test equipment and develop methods to accomplish goals defined by test protocols as required.
  • You will evaluate and recommend improvements to existing test procedure.
  • You will create data collection and analysis tools in Appian, Excel, and LabVIEW.
  • You will develop new test protocols and ensure proper documentation.
  • You will ensure that test data meets established standards for accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility and dependability.
  • You will research new test procedures, and evaluate and recommend improvements to existing test procedures.
  • You will be first in line to address testing issues that need immediate attention by employing temporary counter measures followed by permanent solutions if required
  • Support consumer product testing as needed.

ABOUT YOU

 You’ll Be Highly Rated If:  

  • B.S. Degree in relevant discipline w/ 4 years related experience. May be substituted for equivalent combination of work experience and/or education.
  • Experience developing automated test and measurement systems using National Instruments LabVIEW or similiar system.
  • Excellent computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) 
  • Experience with communication protocols (ModBus, Serial, I2C, etc) 

You’ll Be One of Our Top Picks If:

  • You have a degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • You have knowledge of comparative testing of consumer goods.
  • You are familiar with SQL, Appian and Python.
  • You have experience using machine shop equipment.

Our Commitment to Fair Pay

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $73,000 to $79,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
