CR never accepts sample products from manufacturers on the products we test to generate our ratings. In fact, we pay full retail, purchasing the items from all the same places that consumers do. In this fiscal year we expect to spend more than $30 million dollars to test, rate and review 9,000 products and services. 


As an Acquisition Agent, aka “Secret Shopper” for CR, you will coordinate efforts with our Market Analysts and Product Leaders to purchase and then deliver these predetermined items to our Yonkers headquarters. 


This position is based in our Yonkers, New York office and is not eligible for remote work.


How You’ll Make An Impact:


In addition to making purchases on behalf of CR, the Acquisition Agent serves as the organization’s primary source of information as to product availability, ensuring our market analysts and writers have up to date on product placement in the marketplace.  


In this position, you will be responsible for adhering to the scheduled purchasing of approximately 4-5 products per week, primarily in the small appliance category.  As one of the product “experts” in your category, you may even have the opportunity to assist our technicians, on a as needed basis, with product testing. 


You’ll Be Highly Rated If:


  • You have the credentials.  You have either earned a college degree or have previous experience as a buyer or purchasing agent.
  • You have proficiency with different types of software platforms.  You are comfortable detailing and organizing information within spreadsheet or presentation formats. 
  • You have used an expense system.  We used Concur to itemize and reconcile receipts, as well as, to detail travel expenses.  
  • You’re a savvy online shopper.  You can navigate the internet to find relevant product data. 
  • You have a valid driver’s license and can drive a van if needed.

  • You’re a comfortable communicator.  You can share ideas concisely, verbally and in writing.




Our Commitment to Fair Pay

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $62,000-$65,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
