Policy Analyst (Privacy)

We are currently hiring for a Privacy Policy Analyst, you will report to the Manager, Privacy, and will play a key role in developing and implementing CR’s advocacy strategy on privacy. This includes advocating on federal and state privacy legislation, agency enforcement and rule-making, and corporate engagement.


Under our CRFlex program, this position is eligible for remote work!


How You'll Make an Impact:


In this role you will help develop and execute our advocacy strategies on commercial privacy issues and work closely with state and federal policymakers in crafting better legal protections. You will ensure CR is viewed as a leader on privacy issues by speaking at events, testifying before congress, and communicating to companies, the press, funders and allies on issues around CR's strategic goals and initiatives.


  • You will coordinate and work closely with the Manager, Privacy Advocacy and Director, Technology Policy.
  • You will identify, research, recommend and help initiate actions on relevant policy issues.
  • You will recommend strategy to advance Consumer Reports policy objectives.
  • You will develop legislative and political strategies on telecommunications and privacy issues.
  • You will advocate before Congress and various governmental agencies and testify on behalf of  Consumer Reports or draft testimony for others to deliver before Congress, agencies, or other legislative bodies.
  • You will write and submit comments to Executive, Legislative, and agency leaders on regulations or other matters.
  • You will stay abreast of legislative, regulatory, and substantive developments in assigned areas.
  • You will develop relationships with representatives of the media to help get CR’s message to the public.


You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years experience. You have worked with  Congress or executive branch as well as legislative experience working in or as an advocate before Congress.  
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills. You possess the ability to work with individuals, groups and organizations across the political spectrum to build relationships.
  • You have strong analytical, communications and lobbying skills. 
  • You have in-depth knowledge of various telecommunications and privacy issues. Demonstrates ability to speak, write and present information in a clear, concise and compelling manner that is tailored to a particular audience. Demonstrates strong active listening skills

Our Commitment to Fair Pay

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
