The Senior Policy Counsel reports to and partners with the Associate Director, Climate Energy and Sustainability Policy to design and execute CR’s sustainability policy strategy. This position collaborates with colleagues across CR to thoughtfully manage CR’s approach, relationships, and tactics in driving advocacy goals by developing and implementing legislative, regulatory and corporate strategies at both the federal and state level and partnering across teams to plan, implement, and communicate actions. 


Under our CRFlex program, this position is eligible for 100% Remote status in one of our 13 approved locations (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Washington, DC.)


How You’ll Make An Impact:


As part of CR’s Climate, Energy and Sustainability Initiative, you will help lead our efforts to revolutionize our transportation system in order to lessen the impact of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions on our environment.  Based on research and strategy, you will engage with federal government agencies and other marketplace actors to advance key policy goals to improve public health and safety.  This includes developing policy positions, preparing policy briefs and white papers, delivering testimony on behalf of CR and, representing the organization before the media and coalition partners. 


You’ll Be Highly Rated if:


  • You have earned a JD and have at least 7-years working on clean transportation or related climate, energy and sustainability issues. 
  • You are an experienced advocate. You have done work that includes engaging with senior staff and policymakers on the Hill and with corporations. 
  • You have experience advocating for marketplace change through comments to regulatory agencies and direct proposals for changes in corporate policy and practice. 
  • You have experience analyzing proposed policies or regulations, and contextualizing their implications.
  • You are passionate about sustainability. You have demonstrated expertise in climate, energy, or sustainability issues, and have the ability to grasp detailed policy issues while working with advocates inside and outside the organization.

Our Commitment to Fair Pay:

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $110,000-$130,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience.
