OVERVIEW

CR’s User Researchers help support research initiatives that inform critical decisions around the organization's current and future digital products.  As part of the Consumer Insights team, you’ll  report to the Associate Director, Consumer Research & Insights, while working as a dedicated UX Researcher for our New Ventures group.  

 

The New Ventures team discovers, incubates, and grows new products and services designed to solve thorny consumer problems.  You’ll play an instrumental role in crafting an innovative research practice, delivering insights, and helping this start-up like team create impactful new products and services across personal finance, data privacy, and home management.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of Consumer Reports for the next generation of consumers.

Explore and identify new opportunities and solutions: Design and conduct generative qualitative and quantitative user research– uncovering pain points, Jobs To Be Done, and opportunities to inform product development, vision, and strategy for new products and services.

Drive customer satisfaction and business success: Engage in continuous discovery and evaluative research for products in beta and growth stages to optimize user experience, inform roadmap decisions, and drive business results in partnership with Product, Design, Engineering, and Marketing.

Be a champion for user research: Define and champion how research fits into the various aspects of the design process for New Ventures—from very early exploratory efforts through post-launch, and synthesize and communicate research findings to drive understanding and user empathy across the team.

ABOUT YOU

You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

 

  • You have the experience it takes. We’re looking for at least  2+ years of hands-on experience
  • You have relevant educational experience . You have a Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline.  
  • You’ve delivered. Your successful track record includes engaging and leading cross-functional teams through new territory and delivering on measurable business outcomes.
  • You understand the role that research plays. You bring a deep understanding of how research fits into the various aspects of the design process—from very early exploratory efforts through post-launch.
  • You are well-versed in quantitative and qualitative research methodology. You have a solid grasp of a broad set of quantitative and qualitative research and user-centered design methods and tools, including Usertesting.com.
  • You have end-to-end experience with all aspects of research-- study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with Jobs to Be Done theory and its application in Discovery research.

  • You have a passion for advocating for an organization’s customers and championing new ideas, tools, and experiences that solve their needs.
  • You have top-level communication skills and are comfortable sharing complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • You have a degree in Design, Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a related field. Domain expertise in fintech, real estate, or digital privacy.

The successful candidate must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to start date.  

Our Commitment To Fair Pay

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $72,855.00-$90,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. Salary ranges for union positions are determined by collective bargaining agreement with the NewsGuild of New York.
