Your work will appear online and in print.

Under our CR Flex program, this is a hybrid position eligible for remote work up to 80 percent of the time. Candidates must reside within 75 miles of our Yonkers, NY, office.

How You'll Make an Impact:

Whether writing a review of Apple’s latest iPhones, evaluating digital notebooks, or offering advice on how to preserve family photos, you’ll combine technical insight, smart reporting, and an eagerness to collaborate with coworkers to generate attention-grabbing stories that further the organization's mission. You will also work with our video, social media, and communications teams to promote CR’s work and help us expand our audience.

You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have the background. You’ve earned a BS degree in journalism or some other discipline and have spent at least 5-years covering consumer technology and/or home products for a broad consumer audience.
  • You take a consumer-first approach. You can convert technical insights and data into informative, well-written, easy-to-understand content.
  • You are tech-savvy. You are knowledgeable and interested in consumer products, especially household electronic items from smartphones to printers.
  • You are an idea generator. You have lots of original story ideas to pitch.

You'll Be One Of Our Top Picks If:

  • You appreciate first-rate storytelling. You’re a versatile writer who can craft compelling display copy and collaborate with designers and photo editors on visual treatments across platforms.
  • You are data-driven. You are adept at using SEO research, web metrics, and other market data to guide your work.
  • You enjoy collaboration. You’re open to working alongside CR colleagues—editors, fact-checkers, testers, consumer advocates, layout designers, etc.—to create stories that genuinely impact consumers and the marketplace.
  • You are comfortable in front of a microphone or camera. You welcome the opportunity to participate in video projects and represent CR in social media, podcast, and press appearances.
  • You are a quick study. You can swiftly bring yourself up to speed on new product categories and topics of the day, adapting to new story formats and emerging newsroom tools. You like experimenting.
