The Senior DevOps Engineer is part of a team building and scaling the production infrastructure for the delivery of web applications to millions of CRO users. This role is responsible for building and managing various complex components of CR’s web infrastructure focusing on continuous integration, automated software releases, configuration management and system management in a high-availability cloud environment.  The Sr DevOps Engineer will serve as an internal technical resource as well as identify opportunities to streamline processes.


Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position and is eligible for remote work up to 80% (at least 1 day per week onsite). The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of our Yonkers, New York office location. 




As Senior DevOps Engineer you will work with several engineering teams to handle multiple infrastructure needs. You will oversee the Consumer Reports infrastructure by creating monitors, responding to alerts, and adopting DevOps common practices.  As Sr DevOps Engineer you will support CR and various teams across the organization to build solutions for deploying, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting and suggesting performance and cost optimizations.


As a Senior member of the team, you will:

  • Provide expertise regarding the integration, security, and scalability of applications within a Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Conduct and manage performance tuning, load testing, optimization of information/data processing, maintenance, and support of the production environment to ensure system Health.
  • Collaborate with other software engineers, database developers, infrastructure, operations, and QA to design and implement quality software delivery solutions.
  • Monitor standards for consistent practices across the department.
  • Recommend new automation techniques and solutions to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Serve as a technical expert on the most challenging support and troubleshooting problems.
  • Mentor and teach existing team members.


You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience 
  • You have at least 5 years' experience in designing large and complex IT operations in large organizations; 3 yrs working with infrastructure framework (AWS and Vsphere) 
  • Experience with virtualization platforms and cloud technologies (VMware, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS)
  • You have experience with build automation and configuration management tools (e.g.  Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
  • You have knowledge and experience working in an agile work environment

You'll be one of our top picks if:

  • You have a software development background and scripting with one or more of the following languages: Java, Python, BashY
  • You have sound technical knowledge of how to administer and operate various Linux distributions (Centos/Ubuntu preferred)

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $130k to $148k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
