As Associate Director, Product Sustainability Research and Testing you will help define what sustainability means for Consumer Reports and for the marketplace (consumers, manufacturers, regulators, distributors, etc.) across different product categories. You will do this by developing the scientific and engineeringunderpinnings of our sustainability research and testing of products, goods, and services.  This role will involve the assessment of products that promote positive sustainability characteristics (energy efficiency/consumption, recyclability, sustainable source materials, etc.) and how the ranking/scoring of those characteristics can be incorporated into the overall ratings of those products.   This position resides within the Safety Team, which is responsible for leading the organization's scientific & engineering investigations regarding Product Safety Research and Testing; Product Sustainability Research and Testing; and Food Safety & Nutrition Research and Testing.

The Associate Director, Philanthropic Partnerships will be a writer, researcher, and fundraiser comfortable working across diverse consumer issues. You will collaborate with the team to strengthen and expand CR’s philanthropic partnerships, including your own portfolio of institutional funders. A big part of your day will consist of writing grant proposals, reports, and collateral for the executive team.

These are serious environmental problems that affect the everyday lives of consumers, and yet public health and environmental protections are being rolled back. With our commitment to a fair and just marketplace, CR is now bringing its full power to address climate change and environmental issues in the marketplace and we’re looking for a creative and entrepreneurial person to lead the way.    As part of CR's Climate, Energy, and Sustainability Initiative,In this new position, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively across the organization to build and facilitate execution of a strategy to bend the curve of consumption toward a sustainable future. You will also help create common cause with young people and communities of color who will be our partners in change. And, you will have the opportunity to tap into the diverse assets of a nonprofit social enterprise to take a unique, consumer-facing approach to shape the marketplace and reduce or eliminate harms and inequities associated with the products and services people buy and use everyday, including impacts on consumer health, the economy, and the environment.

Digital interfaces are becoming exceedingly more prevalent in the products and services that CR tests and rates. As a Sr. Product Usability Researcher, you will review and guide the development of ease-of-use test protocols across product categories to ensure  they align with consumer needs, improve testing accuracy and efficiency.     You will also serve as an on-staff Human Factors and Human Computer Interaction expert across the Research Testing & Insights division.     Local (tri-state) candidates are strongly preferred, as this position will eventually be based in our Yonkers, New York office.

Partnering across CR’s divisions to drive marketplace change, the Associate Director will also collaborate on mobilization campaigns and expanding thought leadership.   This position is grant-contingent, with opportunity for extension after two years as we secure additional philanthropic support, which is an organizational priority.
