We look forward to having you join us in our mission to create a fairer, safer, and healthier world for all consumers.   The fine print:   Internships are available to current full-time law and master degree students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.     - The program runs for 12 weeks between June and August of 2020, with some flexibility to accommodate school schedules - This is a paid internship, based on an hourly rate - Internships are on-premises in our Washington D.C. office; we cannot consider requests for remote positions - We cannot pay any relocation or housing allowance - Please specify in your application if you are seeking, and your school offers, academic credit for internships. For more than 80 years, people have trusted Consumer Reports to work for their interests and help them make informed decisions. The advocacy division of Consumer Reports directs our efforts to secure strong pro-consumer policies and practices in government and across industries. We have won important victories for consumers to ensure that the cars, food, and other products we buy are safe, raise the standards for financial services, and improve health and well-being.   Today, consumers are facing a whole new set of challenges in a digital marketplace where tech companies hold the power to shape people's lives. Big tech companies are leveraging their size and reach to introduce business models that limit choice, avoid addressing the harms posed by their products and services, and use people's data without their understanding, consent, or control.   We work directly with our 1 million-plus activists for strong consumer protection laws in Congress and the states and to expose corporations that do wrong by their customers—and to encourage companies that are heading in the right direction.    Consumers help us identify the biggest problems and challenges in the marketplace so that we can put our experts on the case. We think about what a better system would look like and who could make the key changes to get us all there. And, we launch campaigns to raise consumer voices – together with consumers, we get results.     We're looking for an advocate who has an interest in putting consumers first and is familiar with the novel challenges posed by large platforms including Big Tech and telecom companies in the digital marketplace. The new Policy Fellow will join the advocacy team to help identify, develop and support policies that increase platform accountability, empower consumers, and rein in the worst practices of Big Tech and telecom companies that hurt consumers.    At Consumer Reports, we're building a diverse workforce that reflects our society, embraces new ways of thinking, celebrates a wide breadth of experiences, and reflects all of the audiences we serve. Inclusion means valuing the uniqueness that each staff member brings by creating an environment where everyone is welcome. Our objective is simple: for all employees to feel supported so that they're set up for success.   A cover letter is required with resume submission.   This is a two year grant-funded assignment with possibility of renewal.
