How You’ll Make an Impact:   You will develop and execute our advocacy strategies on commercial privacy issues, manage and mentor other advocates, and work closely with state and federal policymakers in crafting better legal protections. You will ensure CR is viewed as a leader on privacy issues by speaking at events, testifying before Congress, and communicating to companies, the press, funders and allies on issues around our strategic goals and initiatives.   - You will serve as the policy lead on privacy issues. - You will support the Director, Technology Policy and senior leadership across key areas of the organization including testing, content, development, marketing in developing a long-term vision and a proactive organizational and marketplace strategy to empower and protect consumers, in coordination with a federal and state advocacy strategy. - You will manage policy staff on privacy to achieve CR policy goals. - You will partner with Director, Technology Policy to develop coordinated testimony, comments, letters and other formal documents that reflect CR’s strategic goals. - You will represent CR – and the interests of consumers – as a CR spokesperson for policy related initiatives and by speaking at events, testifying before Congress, and communicating to the press, funders and allies on issues around our strategic goals and initiatives. - You will ensure CR is viewed as an influential leader on privacy issues. - You will partner with colleagues across product testing, journalism, communications, development, and digital products to identify opportunities where our expertise in testing, ratings and other evidential findings can help spur changes in the marketplace, policy or regulation. Work closely with partners in content and testing to identify and advance marketplace solutions, including coordinated communications with the companies who are in direct position to implement them. - You will use the scientific evidence generated by CR’s testing, research and content teams, identify critical gaps in consumer rights that can be addressed through marketplace and policy change. - You will marshal results of testing and journalistic inquiry for use in work through Congress, the regulatory agencies, and where needed, the courts, to drive strong standards for products. - You will drive creative solutions in concert with CR’s Mobilization team and membership to advance consumer engagement by designing and launching consumer campaigns that champion the rights of consumers and achieve policy, regulatory, and marketplace victories. - You will identify, secure, and manage external coalitions with other non-profit organizations and influentials that add value and capacity to our work. - You will participate in the design and execution of assigned CIA’s policy strategy, with its expressed focus on changing marketplace behaviors to prioritize the interests of consumers. - You will partner with the VP of Development and others to support the engagement of funders and donors to secure major investments in support of this work. - You will advance the strategic and tactical work across multiple divisions within the organization with grace, respect, and diplomacy.

How You'll Make an Impact   In this position, you’ll carry out innovative safety research and data analysis, while also being a public-facing consumer advocate who helps drive public policy and corporate change. You’ll press for a safer and more equitable marketplace for everyone, where companies no longer treat safety as a luxury, charging people extra for essential features. You’ll work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure wide availability of high-performing auto safety technology, establish standards for the safe use of automation, and protect pedestrians and cyclists. You’ll keep tabs on issues with household products and identify ways for CR to help people stay safe at home.   - You will advocate for public policy and business practices that advance road safety and the safety of household products. - You will develop research and compelling arguments to guide business practices and public policies that will protect consumers from safety hazards. - You will provide rapid-response analysis of industry and government actions, research reports, and emerging issues, delivering insights to reporters, policymakers, companies, and other CR divisions. - You will prepare or contribute to the development of compelling materials in a variety of formats including data visualizations, reports, presentations, infographics, and fact sheets to make data meaningful for the public, media, CR staff, and outside stakeholders and decision-makers. - You will present analytical results, both verbally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences. - You will provide input on the work of others.
